David was born in 1989 and grew up in Rhinelander, a town located in the Wisconsin Northwoods and moderately famous for inventing mythical creatures. He graduated from UW Madison in 2012 with a B.S. in Chemistry and Mathematics, where he worked on organosilicon and silylene chemistry in Professor West's lab. In the fall of 2012, David moved to UC Berkeley and is currently studying reductive elimination of alkylpalladium(II) amido complexes in the Hartwig group. In his spare time he enjoys running, biking, chess, and computer games. He is often referred to by his middle name "Matt," despite the confusion it causes.
