Jean-Denys was born in 1990 in Quebec City, Canada. He received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Université Laval in 2013, after which he enrolled in the Ph.D. program under the supervision of Prof. Jean-François Paquin. During his time as a graduate student, he was appointed a Vanier scholar from 2015 until 2018 and he contributed to the development of new transformations of allylic and propargylic fluorides as electrophilic partners. Now holder of a fellowship from the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Nature et technologies (FRQNT), he joined the ranks of the Hartwig group as a postdoctoral fellow in September 2018, where he currently works on Ir-catalyzed aromatic C-H bond functionalization. In his spare time, Jean-Denys loves to read fantasy novels, play the piano, work on his tennis shots and visit the bay area.
