Masahiro Kojima was born in Nagano, and grew up in Yokohama, Japan. In 2012, he graduated from The University of Tokyo with his BS in pharmaceutical sciences under the guidance of Prof. Motomu Kanai. Then, he earned his PhD in the same group in 2017. In the course of his graduate studies he involved in photoredox catalysis, radical reactions and acceptorless dehydrogenations. Also, in the fall of 2014, he joined Prof. Dirk Trauner's group in Munich University as an exchange student. After 3 months of postdoctoral research experience in the Kanai group, he joined the Hartwig group in July 2017. In his spare time he enjoys taking, photographs, trying new foods and exploring the city of Berkeley.
