Michael Mormino was born in Tampa, Florida in 1988. He received his B.S. in chemistry from the University of South Florida. During his undergraduate career, Michael worked with Dr. Jon Antilla on various projects involving asymmetric transformations catalyzed by chiral phosphoric acids and chiral phosphate salts. In 2012, driven by his interest in organometallic chemistry and his desire to see more mountains (but not ready for snow), he came to Berkeley to join the Hartwig group. Michael's current research focuses on the metal-mediated introduction of fluorinated moieties into organic molecules. When not in the lab, Michael enjoys watching fine British television, listening to classic rock music, wasting time on the internet, and attempting to cook.
