Yang Gu was born in XiangYang of Hubei, in China. He received his BS degree in Chemistry from University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) with Prof. Zhiyong Wang in 2011. Then he moved to the east of China and began his PhD studies with Prof. Qilong Shen in Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry (SIOC), Chinese Academy of Sciences. His PhD work focused on investigations of transition metal complexes with fluoroalkyl group and transition-metal catalyzed fluorine chemistry. Thanks to the kind support of SIOC and Pharmanon Company (SIOC fellowship), he joined the Hartwig lab at UC Berkeley as a postdoctoral researcher at the beginning of 2017. Now he is combining the metal chemistry with proteins (metalloenzymes) to develop new catalyzed reactions. In his spare time, he likes running, cooking and watching movies.
